About the Palmwoods Progress Association
Since 1902 the Palmwoods Progress Assoc. Inc has been the one body, which can be said to embrace almost everything in and for the town. It has made its mark on Palmwoods district history with progressive projects across the community.
The PPA’s archives tell a story of great commitment by generations of dedicated local citizens who have come from all background for the benefit of their town.
The first settlers arrived in Palmwoods in 1881 – 21 years later the Palmwoods Progress Association was formed in conjunction with the Fruit Grower’s Association. The first meetings were held around a campfire, members sitting on logs watching the billy boil as they made plans for their young town.
The PPA has remained a non-profit community organization since its inception in 1902.
The PPA went into recess during World War II and reformed in 1946. Some projects have been achieved by the physical efforts of PPA members but most of the projects by the motivation and assistance of Council, State Government or other Clubs and Associations. Community, beautification, recreational, road & street improvements demonstrate the vast range of the projects undertaken by the PPA.
The PPA has given support to the local business by helping to promote businesses within the Palmwoods area recently producing a Tourist Information brochure “Gateway to the Hinterland”
The PPA also strongly supports the community organizations with donations, events to assist with raising funds.
We would encourage all residents, business and community groups to attend the PPA meetings – help to continue in the shaping the future of Palmwoods
